What a year!
As we move towards the Christmas period, schools, colleges and universities are starting to wind down, people are thinking about buying presents and getting a turkey and we start to reflect on the past 12 months.
It has been quite a year, we have celebrated 40 years of campaigning, raised awareness and celebrated dyslexic achievement during Dyslexia Awareness Week, supporting teachers, parents and individuals up and down the country through our national helpline and have welcomed hundreds of people to our conferences throughout the year.
There have been some great fundraising efforts. Our marathon runners this year managed to raise over £9,000 for the BDA, which is a fantastic amount and has allowed us to carry on supporting dyslexics through projects like Children Will Shine.
This year was also notable for the online petition calling for all teachers to receive a minimum training in dyslexia awareness as part of their initial teacher training. This petition managed to gather over 19,000 signatures. Thank you to everyone who signed and got involved in the campaign, we are very grateful.
Next year we have lots to be excited about including ‘Dyslexia on the move’, the publication of the 2013 Handbook, more free events for parents and also there will be some changes to our website to look out for.
We hope you have enjoyed 2012 and that it has been an enjoyable and successful year and hopefully 2013 will be just as eventful.
